FALL CLASSES
As the home of Chicago's only music class based entirely on Broadway Musicals, Stages is excited to offer this unique class for new babies and their caregivers!
Created and taught by Stages founder, Emily Pinas, and Director of Early Childhood Development, Colin Funk, who both hold M.S. degrees in Child Development from Erikson Institute, Lullaby League offers a unique opportunity to engage with your little one in a musical environment while learning about their physical, cognitive, social-emotional, and language development.
Each week, infants and their caregivers are introduced to exciting new sensory experiences, songs, and stories as Broadway Musicals are brought to life. Throughout the class, teachers will moderate informal discussions about aspects of your little one's developmental journey as well as answer all of your burning questions. There's also time for adults to socialize and build community!

Broadway Prep is a GENTLE SEPARATION CLASS. Designed specifically for children ages 2-4 years old, Prep provides a fun and supportive environment where little ones (and their parents) can adapt to being on their own in a "big kid" class at their own pace.
While the goal is drop-off, we understand that for many children, this will be their first separation experience. Parents will be allowed to stay in class with their child for as long as necessary and Prep teachers will work with parents to create a drop-off routine for each child that ensures both kiddos and their parents are comfortable.
Parents and caregivers whose children feel comfortable being dropped off are welcome to stay at Soul City and hang out while classes are taking place but it is not required. There are plenty of comfy couches, tables where you can work remotely, and free wifi!
Preschoolers can now experience the magic of Broadway with a class designed specifically for them!
Each week, Broadway Little Stars introduces preschoolers to a new musical through activities inspired by the “show of the week” and designed to get them singing, dancing, and acting along.
Fall 2025 Musicals Include: Wicked, Hamilton, Greatest Showman, Peter Pan, Guys & Dolls, Bye Bye Birdie, Wizard of Oz, Hamilton, Greatest Showman, and more!
Classes are taught by professional teaching artists who are experts at engaging and educating children in fun, developmentally appropriate ways. Whether your child is ready for the spotlight or simply loves musicals, this class is for them!

Little Stars: Broadway Dance combines the magic of Broadway with a creative movement class that focuses heavily on creativity and helping young dancers discover new ways to move their bodies.
Each class features music and activities that are inspired by a different Broadway Musical and designed to support fine and gross motor skills, imagination, rhythm, and body awareness while also introducing elements of formal dance classes such as a warm-up routine, “across the floor," and learning choreography in a fun, developmentally appropriate way.
At the end of each session, Little Stars will get to show off their new Broadway moves in an Open House on the last day of class.
Here at Stages, we believe that dance is for everyone! Our team is committed to creating an inclusive environment where all children can feel comfortable.

Broadway Stars was created by a professional performer turned child development specialist with the primary goal of helping children develop the foundational skills and technique every musical theater performer needs while giving them the opportunity to find their voice, build confidence, and do what every budding Broadway Star loves most: PERFORM!
Classes are taught by a team of professional teaching artists with years of experience in the classroom and on professional stages and feature a customized curriculum designed to challenge and showcase the strengths of each young performer while helping prepare them to participate in our mainstage musical this Spring.

Whether your child is destined for the lights of Broadway or simply loves to perform with their friends, this class will spark their creativity and give them the confidence to shine both onstage and off!
*While participation in our Fall Semester is not required to enroll in our Spring Production classes, it is strongly encouraged.
*Our Fall Finale will take place on a weeknight the week of December 1 or December 15. Once we know how many students are participating in Stars this Fall, we will be able to finalize the location, day, and time and share that information with families.

Does your child love to perform? Are they ready to take their training to the next level? Then our Broadway Workshop is for you!
Throughout the semester, young performers will focus on scene study, song interpretation, and audition technique as they rehearse scenes and songs from Broadway shows selected specifically for them by our team of professional teaching artists. This class is designed to showcase the strengths of each young performer in a fun supportive environment while giving them the tools they'll need to feel confident in pre-professional or professional settings.
Students in our Broadway Workshop will get to work on their own solo numbers and monologues in addition to duets, small group, and group numbers designed to help them "build their book" and introduce them to new, exciting repertoire.
*The semester will culminate in a Musical Theater Cabaret that will take place the week of December 1 or December 15. Once we know how many students are participating, we will be able to finalize the location, day, and time and share that information with families.
WORKSHOP EXPECTATIONS:
All children are welcome to enroll whether they have been have been performing for years or this will be their first venture into the spotlight.
This workshop will resemble professional performing arts classes in that young performers will be expected to learn and rehearse material at home in preparation for class. We will teach them how to do this and provide the necessary materials but they must be committed to practicing at home.
CAN'T DECIDE between our Musical Theater Workshop and Fall Play: PUFFS? Enroll for both and save $250 on tuition for this class.
Stages is committed to making this class available to all young performers who are interested in participating. Full and partial scholarships are available. For more information click here or contact info@stageschicago.org

WHAT TO EXPECT:
Weeks 1-2 (Sep 6 - Sep 13): I Hope I Get It!
During the first two weeks of the semester, students will participate in a personalized audition process. Auditions at Stages are designed to be a low stress, fun experience where Broadway Stars get to show off what they’ve been learning the first few weeks of the semester and tell us what they are most excited to do in the show. Middle School Musical students get the chance to do a comprehensive audition process complete with cold reads and callbacks.
Casting will be done more traditionally with 1-2 actors playing each role. EVERY CHILD WILL BE GIVEN A ROLE OR SPECIAL PART IN THE SHOW. We will work together with children to make sure they have a role. that they are excited to perform!
Weeks 3-10 (Sep 20 - Nov 8): Putting It Together--
During Weeks 3-10, the cast will participate in weekly rehearsals. During these classes, we will focus on character development, blocking the show, and introducing various theatrical elements that will be used such as sets, props, special effects, and costumes.
Weeks 11-12 (Nov 15 - Nov 22): Prepping for Opening Night
During Weeks 11-12, the cast will begin running doing “Run Thrus” where they perform the show from start to finish. We’ll also start adding in transitions so performers know when and how to enter/exit the stage, when to get microphones, make a costume change, or pick up a prop from the prop table. These classes are VERY important and we ask that you do your best to ensure your child is at every class unless they are ill.
*There will be no class on November 29*
TECH WEEK: Saturday, December 6 & Monday December 8 - Thursday December 11
The week of the show, we will be having rehearsal everyday after school at the theater. These rehearsals will be MANDATORY.
